This article, ‘Learn From Our Mistakes’ by Lina Caneva of ProBono Australia backs up why we believe that Empowability is exactly the solution that the disability sector needs to weather the NDIS roll out.
Discussing the learnings out of the UK, Dr Shereen Hussein touches on issues that are now arising in Australia in the new world of the NDIS. When the UK ‘marketised’ their care system many years ago the workforce underwent massive changes including worker stress and burnout, and under-qualified people being recruited just to meet the demand. Dr Hussein warns that the sector is likely to see tremendous growth very soon and if we don’t do something to ensure properly trained people are available we risk having a workforce that is unable to meet the need.
Empowability’s eLearning courses are written specifically for the disability sector and offer a cost effective way of ensuring the high number of staff that will be employed to meet the NDIS demand are work-ready. Our courses complement the standard qualifications that are available to the sector at the moment and being eLearning, support workers in remote regions have the same access as those in the city ensuring that geography is not a barrier to having well-trained support staff.
Empowability also awards learners with digital badges that can be used to show other organisations that you have completed the learning, effectively making Empowability transferable across the sector, another suggestion by Dr Hussein.
By engaging Empowability as a learning partner, disability service providers will provide their staff with the flexibility to learn when and where they want.
